Azure Transformation: Governance, FinOps, Automation, Upskilling

Project Summary

Developed the delivery structure for a multi-phase Azure transformation program.  Phase 1 brought together parallel assessments of the Landing Zone/Azure estate, cloud governance, FinOps maturity, DevOps/automation, and client skills.  Phase 1 streams converged at a formal stage gate where findings would be reviewed, priorities agreed, proposals/change requests approved, and subsequent work scoped.

Phase 2 planned a MVP cloud operating model and governance remediation, while later provisional phases covered architecture remediation, FinOps implementation, automation and CI/CD, SCCM-related operations, training, and a Cloud Center of Excellence.

Project Details
  • Project schedule was explicitly divided into assessment, governance, remediation/implementation, and Center of Excellence phases.
  • Five assessment streams converged into a single review/prioritization/sign-off stage gate.
  • Subsequent phases depended on approved proposals/change requests from the assessment phase.
demonstrated capabilities

Solid example of program decomposition and gating of uncertain downstream scope rather than pretending it was fully estimable before assessment.  The project schedule was akin to an operating-model view of cloud adoption, encompassing technology, governance, economics, automation, and capability development.

Significant planning required for multi-workstream projects, stage gates, change requests, governance operating models, FinOps, automation, skills transition, and roadmap-to-execution design.
