Environment Assessment and Migration

Project Summary

Assessment and pilot intended to validate migration of a development/test application environment to Azure.  Plan deployed an Azure Migrate appliance, collected environment data, engaged application owners, reviewed the on-premises estate and existing Landing Zone, assessed BCDR, monitoring, operating support, and application dependencies.

Findings were converted into cost estimates and a migration plan.  A single-application pilot was sequenced through pre-migration preparation, migration, post-migration tasks, UAT support and sign-off, followed by an assessment report and project closeout. Significant project schedule delays were incurred due to client delay (delays in provisioning environment access and migration appliance installation); schedule was re-baselined several times during the implementation accordingly.

Project Details
  • Client was required to provide an application list and application SMEs able to explain dependencies.
  • Azure Migrate data collection precedes findings analysis, cost estimation, and the migration plan.
  • Pilot execution explicitly included pre-migration, migration, post-migration, UAT support, and sign-off.
  • Various change requests issued, including an uncovered private-endpoint requirement and VMware appliance delay.
demonstrated capabilities

The project required coordinating both technical prerequisites and client-side application knowledge, both common sources of migration risk.  Project is an excellent example of assessment-to-pilot delivery, application dependency discovery, migration readiness, risk escalation, UAT, and client coordination, particularly given client-induced schedule delays. Clear yet diplomatic communication in status reports was communicated, example below.
